Stories
from Summer Camp
By
our roving reporter, Mrs. VS.
It was clear to me that this year’s summer camp experience at Camp Resolute
was a huge success. There was
a total of 32 kids attending the
camp from Troop 63 and a total of 107 merit badges earned!
Not only was there a lot of hard work
going on, but an awful lot of fun was had by all.
When I arrived at the waterfront to watch the Saturday
afternoon games, the buzz around the pond was all about Alex’s amazing rowing
abilities. Apparently he was dead
last in the race and somehow managed to pull ahead to win the race for Troop 63.
He sure proved to everyone that he is one heck of a rower!
No one will ever forget the violent thunderstorm that ripped
through the camp that week. Not to
fear as the boys were safe under a big tarp.
It proved to be a good learning experience as the boys stayed away from
tall trees and the open areas. The
only real casualty was the mess hall’s kitchen oven, which was knocked out.
Dinner was delayed, but the kids were fine.
Another memorable point during the week was when one of our
fearless leaders who shall remain nameless had the duty to oversea the
waterfront activities so the lifeguard could take a break.
People were suddenly questioning if The Hunchback of Notre Dame had
joined the staff. All anyone could
see was this figure bent over facing the pond apparently catching a few zzz’s!
Kevin takes first prize for the best
decorated tent award otherwise known as Mash Unit 4077.
He had a white fence and an American Flag overhanging the entrance.
It came complete with a folding table and chairs, solar powered lights,
wind chimes and last but not least a hub cap straight from the swamp.
All that was missing was the pink flamingo!
The closing ceremony with Tonkatu was bittersweet as Troop 63 would lose two
great scouts, Dan and James.
They were moving the next day to Pennsylvania.
James was honored with a special recognition from Tonkatu.
Come back and visit us anytime Dan and James!
