Ski Trip to Ragged Mountain
We were hoping to leave the church at around 6:30 PM, on Friday night. But, as usual, we didn’t get going until a little later. Everyone finally found a car to get into, and we were on our way for a 2-hour drive, up to New Hampshire. Every long trip we take, we stop for a break, and get something to eat. Tonight we stopped at McDonalds.
We were all looking forward to a great day of skiing Saturday at Ragged Mountain. But first we needed a good night sleep. The troop had reserved a place for us at a church camp. It was a great place to relax. The camp had a couple different rooms and a big kitchen for us to cook in. We were definitely not roughing it on this trip! There were even bunk beds for us to sleep in! The staff even made sure it was nice and warm inside by keeping the big wood stove stocked with wood.
Most of us were ready for bed by midnight, but some scouts need to learn to stop talking when the lights go out. Saturday morning at 6 AM came bright and early. We enjoyed pancakes, hot chocolate and tang for breakfast. Then we quickly got ready to go skiing.

The four-car caravan headed for the mountain. Unfortunately we drove in the wrong direction for about 20 minutes. Oh well, we turned around, found the right way, and made it to the ski area.
Once we were there, we all got our tickets from Mr. Vifquain and Mr. Smith. Some scouts needed to go rent equipment. Some scouts were signed up for a lesson. The rest of us headed for the lifts. It seemed like it was going to be a good day. The sun was shining and it wasn’t too cold.

It was March, and they had had some warm weather in the last few weeks, so only about 30% of the mountain was open. But our first run was good, and our second one was even better. We probably made about ten runs before we decided it was time for lunch. Most of our group bought our lunch from the food court. It tasted great and gave us the energy to head back up the mountain. The day seemed to pass quickly as we snowboarded or skied. Some of the scouts were able to earn their snow sports merit badge as they showed off their skills to the scoutmasters. By 4 o’clock the last of us die hards closed the mountain, and the troop headed back to the camp, while a few went to go and get pizza for us.
When we got back, we changed clothes just in time for dinner. After dinner we played cards and relaxed. The next morning we packed up our gear and headed home. It was a fun trip, and I’ll definitely go again next year!
