Wilderness Survival 2006
By Will And Alec
On April 8, 2006, about 30 scouts and adults from Troop 63 left Our Lady of Fatima Church in Sudbury and traveled south an hour to the Hale Reservation in Westwood, Massachusetts. The Wilderness Survival Trip had begun. When the cars reached the reservation, the adults parked in the parking lot and the scouts brought their personal gear, in addition to the troop gear up a hill to the central camp site.
Once up the hill, the scouts then proceeded to their campsites and began setting up their shelters. For safety reasons, there was a base camp where the leaders have their tents, gear, and other supplies. Once the shelters were operational, the scouts began building fires and eating lunch.
Over the course of the day, many things happened, including advancement for younger scouts, a visit from some Webelos from Sudbury, and attendance to individual camp sites.
After nightfall, scouts prepared and ate dinner, roasted marshmallows, and attended a campfire program at the base camp where skits and jokes took place in addition to an Order of the Arrow ceremony.
In the morning, scouts prepared and ate breakfast before taking down their shelters, packing their gear, cleaning the campsite, and vacated.
